Impact/Laura Dester Impact

The Impact Committee of the Junior League of Tulsa, Inc. provides short term or done-in-a-day volunteer assistance to Tulsa area non-profit organizations and schools.  We complete approximately 30 projects a year and work with dozens of local organizations, including Operation Hope Prison Ministry, Youth at Heart, Tulsa Boys’ Home, and the Sand Springs Children’s Home.

We encourage any Tulsa non-profit organization or school to complete and submit an Impact application to request volunteer assistance.  Please remember that the main purpose of your application should be to request volunteer assistance for projects or events aligned with our mission, which is to end the cycle of poverty in the Tulsa area through hands-on education and community based programs.  We offer limited financial assistance, but our purpose is not to provide funds, help fundraise/solicit donations, or purchase items.  If you have any questions please contact the committee chair at

Laura Dester Impact

Twice a month, our volunteers visit the Laura Dester Children’s Shelter, an emergency shelter for children who have been removed from their homes due to pending allegations of abuse or neglect.  The Shelter provides children of all ages a safe and nurturing environment until the child can either return home or a permanent placement can be found.

During our visits, we provide the children with fun and educational activities along with emotional support and attention.  Although the Department of Human Services has announced the closing of the Shelter, we will continue our visits throughout 2015-2016 or until the Shelter closes.
